Hi! My name is Jade Phinn, and I am an associate social worker or pre-licensed therapist. I am licensed to provide psychotherapy in Colorado & Washington. I am physically located in Seattle and able to provide in-person therapy sessions in Seattle. I am able to treat all residents of Washington & Colorado via Telehealth.

I specialize in treating BIPOC/QTBIPOC adults & adolescents, sex workers, survivors of intimate partner violence, and parents suffering from infant & child loss.

I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in Psychology and Human Development with a minor in counseling. I have a master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in integrative healthcare from the Metropolitan State University of Denver.

In my free time, I consume a lot of tea, experiment with culinary delights (cooking & eating), knit numerous failed clothing items, and play various games.

While in undergrad, I worked as a supervised visitation specialist, where I supervised visits between children and caregivers that they had been removed from. I helped caregivers learn skills needed to make healthier choices regarding their kids. My ultimate goal was always to aspire and support to family reunification until it was absolutely necessary to advocate for ongoing separation.

I got my official start by providing therapy for victims of crime in Denver— rewarding, but heavy. After that, I provided therapy to children who had both a neurodivergent diagnosis & mood disorder/conduct disorder diagnosis. It was here that I realized how beneficial play therapy is. I especially love to utilize art & play therapy with adolescents.

After this, I worked as a harm reduction public health educator in 7th-12th-grade classrooms in Denver. I helped kids learn about inclusive health and sexual education in a non-judgmental space. We talked about things such as drugs and the violent history of the war on drugs, the aids epidemic and its lasting impacts on the qtbipoc community, the COVID pandemic, and even the Tuskegee Airmen Syphilis experiment and its lasting impacts on African-American public health outcomes. In another life, I’d love to go back to this.

Upon graduating from my master of Social Work program in 2023, I then took a job providing inpatient therapy & diagnostic assessments for a psychiatric hospital in the Denver area. I worked with adolescents and adults suffering from various psychotic disorders, personality disorders, suicidal/homicidal thoughts, psychosis, and addiction.

However, something was missing. I had to operate in a strict medical model. Where, instead of offering new needles and Narcan, I had to discourage substance use completely, and preach abstinence-only education and sobriety. It went against everything I believed in. I placed people on 72-hour holds every day, and had to grapple with the forced hospitalization of many adults and children who simply needed to be heard and supported with community care.

In late 2023, I came across a job posting in my home state of Washington. They were a harm reduction-based community mental health organization looking for an intake specialist. I applied on a whim, and before I knew it, my partner & I uprooted ourselves from Denver and moved to Seattle.

My journey has led me here, to create Rainy City Therapy. And I welcome you, and thank you for joining my journey.

During individual/couples therapy & group therapy sessions, you can expect a mix of theoretical approaches, but I prioritize incorporating play and art whenever possible (yes, adults deserve to play too). If that means working on our crafts together or playing Mahjong or Minecraft during a session, then that’s what we get to do. This is a space where you can show up fully as yourself and feel no need to mask any parts or perform some weird professionalism acrobatics.

  • Terms such as “battle fatigue” and “shell shock” were originally used to describe what we now know as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. These terms categorized emotional and physical symptoms that World War 1 and 2 soldiers experienced.

However, trauma and trauma based disorders are not specific to people have experienced war. Today, we define trauma as an experience that has lasting negative effects on someones emotional and physical wellbeing.

Trauma can be caused by experiencing physical and emotional harm such as physical & sexual violence, war, police brutality, surviving or witnessing overdoses/acute drug poisoning, racism, transphobia, and homophobia.

Trauma can also lead to the development of Borderline Personality Disorder, especially trauma experienced in childhood.

Self Pay, Cash Pay, or Out of Network

My self-pay/cash rate for individual therapy is $135 an hour. It is $165 an hour for couples/family therapy.

Additionally, I offer limited sliding scale spots for folks who may benefit.

If you are out of network, some health insurance plans will reimburse you part or all of your cost if you submit a superbill. Reach out to your insurance to see if you qualify for out-of-network benefits.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance, or who choose not to use insurance, an estimate of the expected charges for services.
